Capability Solutions Group was incorporated on 16 December 2011 with the goal of supporting organisations to deliver their business aspiration and performance expectations through Organisational Capability.

Our aspiration is to build a team and infrastructure that supports specific industries and functions. This focus enables a very bespoke and much deeper and meaningful contribute as both the acquired knowledge and demonstrated application are key to success.

Industry categories are continually be revised, a quick search on your favourite search engine will produce multiple lists with some common themes.  At CSG we are initially focused on Information Technology, Fast Moving Consumer Good, Manufacturing, Energy, Renewables and Environment and Industrial Automation. We continue to expand into new industries if you wish to discuss.

As Founder and Managing Director, I (Richard Andrew Ian Cowley) have a passion for growing businesses, helping teams and individuals grow and achieve, believing that ultimately help economies grow through commercial success.

As a globally experienced HR leader, I have spent most of my illustrious thirty-eight-year HR career delivering the organisational aspirations of large global MNC companies including military, aerospace, fast-moving consumer goods, automation machines, logistics, and supply chain. These have included the Royal Navy, British Aerospace, DHL, Coca-Cola, Kimberly-Clark, and Tetra Pak. By contrast, my SME experience exposure has been in the food, health and beverage, office equipment, construction, machine and automation, cycling, jewellery, multi-level marketing personal care, AI HR software, recruitment and outsourcing; information technology and software founder of my own heavily invested HR technology start up. 

I have been responsible for providing HR functional leadership and transactional support for over 20,000 employees of all levels and job types in country, regional, and global roles covering more than twenty-five countries. 

I have developed, led, and facilitated over forty global, regional, national or functional transformation change programs in various project, leadership and workforce contexts. 

I have led over fifty business focused OGSM business strategy and performance alignment, coaching and feedback sessions. 

I have been a recruitment specialist at all levels of recruitment as well as a LinkedIn recruiter. I was hired in developing and emerging markets including Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Oceania, the USA, and the UK. 

I have led and been a team member in the development of global/local human resource system platforms and later in my career started my own HR technology company to deliver a truly exceptional recruitment platform, raising over 2 million dollars. 

My key capabilities and passions are business opportunity delivery, organisational capability development, digital application, and transformation (machine learning, data science, natural language programming, chatbot, SaaS), talent and performance management, and very hands-on delivery. I am very passionate about helping people, technology, and process innovation, and making a social impact.

During the COVID lockdown I took the time to deliver on a personal aspiration, write a book focused on helping SMEs succeed, with 9/10 often failing I thought I would offer my perspective.

Most small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) allegedly fail for four main reasons: inexperience of the business owner; no business or action plan; no capital/funding; or a bad idea. However, the reality is that there are many other reasons that we can manage and thus ensure we do not become a failed SME!  The book has been written for CEOs and HR leaders who do not want to become a failed SME statistic. It provides and overview of the varying experiences I have witnessed and a ten step process to help guide organisations.
